FLOW are delighted to be showing the work of Lynn Fraser on the FLOW Photofest wall in Inverness.

In 2024 Lynn Fraser was named Amateur Photographer of the Year by Amateur Photographer magazine — the UK’s oldest photography weekly. The competition drew 12,000 entries from over 2,200 photographers.

"I live in Tore in the Scottish Highlands, and for the past twelve years a camera has been my constant travel companion. The eight images in this exhibition are all entries from that competition — each one shortlisted or placed — and they are drawn from journeys across Ethiopia, South Sudan, The Gambia, Zimbabwe, Uzbekistan, Romania and China. Each one holds a precious memory.
What draws me, above all, is people. I love to travel off the beaten track and find myself in places where life is lived differently — and then, if I’m lucky, to be allowed a glimpse of it through my lens. A fisherman on a Chinese river working by lantern light; a woman in the fields; a child in The Gambia perfecting his football skills. Every portrait here was made with the full knowledge and willingness of the person in it, and I hope something of the connection we shared in that moment comes through in the image.
Alongside the portraits you’ll find a landscape and a wildlife photograph — because the people I meet are never really separate from the world around them."
