This talk will be a celebration of the wonderful work of these four artists, and will be an opportunity to learn a little bit more about their evolving practices, their experiences during the residency programme, and the new body of work which they have on show at Uncertain Futures group exhibition at our SaltSpace gallery in the Axiom Building.

This event will be introduced by Hannah Kate Absalom artist and SaltSpace Committee member. The event will feature a Q & A and discussion with the artists hosted by John Thorne, Sustainability Coordinator at Glasgow School of Art, through this conversation the artists will explore sustainable materials and methods of practice, thinking through their residency experiences and exploring ways of making work within the context of the uncertain present and futures we find ourselves within.

The exhibition private view will take place on Friday 15th March 6:30-9pm, at Saltspace Gallery, Floor 2, Axiom Building, 54 Washington St, Glasgow, G3 8AZ. Please note this venue is stair access only, there are railings on these stairs and accessible toilets once inside the venue.

The exhibition continues from the 16th -24th March 2024, showcasing the work of Bel Pye, Iryna Zamuruieva, Jemma Mitchell and Oren Shoesmith.

This exhibition is the culmination of works and experiences of the four emerging artists who were selected from over 85 applications to take part in our Uncertain Futures residency programme, our most ambitious and large-scale project to date, kindly sponsored by Creative Scotland. These residencies began as a concept nearly two years ago, with the hope of bringing early career artists an opportunity to work collaboratively with ourselves and four local organisations, to develop their practice and gain insight into how to nurture a sustainable practice. Each residency artist was paired with either GalGael, Street Level Photoworks, Print Clan and Glasgow Ceramics Studio, given 1:1 tuition, workshop facilities and a studio space.

Uncertain Futures aimed to comment on our collective future as we are moving through unsettling times whilst offering artists space to process and create. Uncertain Futures touches upon the current vulnerabilities in our society at present, particularly for artists. The purpose of these residencies was to allow artists to comment on our shared future as we face significant changes and to provide them with a supportive environment to cultivate their artistic expression.

The Uncertain Futures residency programme was made possible through funding from Creative Scotland.
