From 19th June - 19th August 2023, the Mitchell Library in Glasgow will be hosting “The Cost of Dying” photographic exhibition. This exhibition aims to shed light on the way in which people’s socio-economic circumstances can have a profound effect on their end of life experiences.

This exhibition is the culmination of a four-year research project funded by the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC), which is part of UK Research and Innovation (UKRI). People with lived experience of financial hardship and serious advanced illness were supported to take images that tell their story of dying at home in Scotland. In addition, award-winning documentary photographer Margaret Mitchell was commissioned to create a body of work reflecting on participants’ stories and emotions.
