To celebrate the opening of the Making Space | Photographs of Architecture exhibition at the Portrait Gallery we invited featured artist-historian Sylvia Grace Borda to speak about Scotland’s first two New Towns, East Kilbride and Glenrothes, and how they were designed with goals of sustainability from their establishment, considered as a contemporary baseline for achieving liveable towns and cities. The unique urban planning histories of these New Towns are captured through Borda’s photographic lens and research highlighting models of generous architecture and reflective examples of how we can approach climate resilience change today.
