In the recent book A Life of Industry, author Daniel Gray tells the story of John R Hume, Scotland’s foremost expert on industrial heritage. Over three decades, through 25,000 black and white images, Hume documented life in late-industrial and post-industrial Scotland – this evening, Gray talks us through some of them, and the lessons he learned from Hume and his photographs about community, togetherness and how society copes in periods of flux and struggle.
