Girls and their Mothers is a collection of portraits featuring mixed race girls photographed alongside their mothers. The images display their relationships, linking these girls and their mothers together while at the same time respecting their disparity. Photographer Kim Simpson was inspired by the experiences of raising her own daughter, and these images were created with an intent on questioning social perception of what Scottish families look like.  A selection of portraits from the series are being shown at Beacon Arts Centre throughout October in conjunction with Black History Month.
