Celebrating a shared love of photography, our three speakers will take us on a visual and lyrical tour of three beautiful nations - Scotland, Ireland and Wales. A rich mix of viewpoints born out of life experience and research, from three artists who will share very personal perspectives through their photography.
Former English teacher, John Patton, has been capturing moments for over sixty years. He has carried his passion for photography with him throughout his life, as well as his love for teaching. John has taught in Scotland as well as in Africa and he has taught photography in Glenochil Prison. In his talk he will be discussing ‘Moving Pictures’ illustrating how hope and passion can be translated through sound and image.
Alex Boyd is a German-Scottish photographer.. Based in the West of Scotland, he currently works as a landscape and documentary photographer. Internationally renowned for his work he now has pieces in the V&A in London, the collections of the National Galleries of Scotland, The Royal Photographic Society, The Royal Scottish Academy, St Andrews University, and the Yale Centre for British Arts in the US among many others. In his talk he will be discussing how his work has responded to ideas and representations of the Scottish culture and identity
In her work Ellie Hopkins focuses on the concept of national dialect within visual languages, and examines the trajectory of Welsh Photography. Ellie is a photographer and a PhD Research Student at the University of Stirling. She will be discussing her practice-based photographic work and her in-progress PhD work, both of which focus on Welsh Photography. She will also discuss emerging themes within photographic research
