Samantha Asumadu: The Super Ladies (UK/Uganda) 2009. 22 mins
Followed by Q&A with the director and guests TBC

The Super Ladies is a documentary film that follows three female rally-drivers, competing to beat their male counterparts in The Pearl of Africa Rally – one of Africa’s toughest motor races. The three women exemplify changing gender dynamics in Africa – and not just on the race course: business women, pop-singers, teachers & mothers, they also have to battle for the respect of their male competitors. Will they win out on race day?

The screening will be followed by a Q&A between GAMIS, Samantha and other invited speakers, exploring the processes of making documentaries including the personal stories about how the film came to be made, the challenges and the impact of this work on their lives.

Glasgow Artists’ Moving Image Studios (GAMIS) are a new organisation committed to supporting experimental and community-focused film programming in Govanhill.
