We are proud to announce the publication of Hill and Adamson’s The Fisherwomen and Men of the Firth of Forth by Sara Stevenson, released in May 2026 by Studies in Photography.

Join us for an afternoon dedicated to the pioneering work of David Octavius Hill and Robert Adamson, whose images of the fishing communities of Newhaven stand among the earliest and most powerful examples of social documentary photography.

This special event offers an opportunity to explore a selection of images from the book, including many previously unpublished works, and to experience the enduring presence of the fisherwomen and men whose lives shaped these extraordinary photographs.

Sara Stevenson is a leading a world authority on Hill & Adamson who worked as a curator in the National Scottish Galleries.

This launch runs alongside an exhibition of museum-quality prints by Hill & Adamson, which will be for sale in the gallery 1 May-25 July 2026.

Refreshments will be provided.

All tickets contribute towards a £5 discount on a purchase of the book. Book tickets here.

For any print purchased, a free edition of the book will be included.
