Thresholds brings together the work of four photographers whose practices explore the connection, awareness, and energy that arise from living on islands. Through diverse approaches to landscape, environment, folklore, and community, the exhibition reflects on the powerful relationships between people and place.

Beka Globe reinterprets the land, sea, and sky of Harris through a tremendously rich and expansive tonal range. Her process of "fixing the shadows" takes the viewer from pure light into cavernous depths of velvety black, creating images in which the energy of the water is almost palpable.

Mhairi Law explores the relationship between people and place on the Isle of Lewis, focusing on the tradition of peat cutting and its enduring presence within the landscape. Her work highlights how island communities continue to enrich local culture through energy, enterprise, and a deep connection to place.

Rebecca Marr, based in Orkney, examines environmental change, particularly the threat of rising sea levels and the vulnerability of island communities. Her images sit somewhere between wonder and foreboding, inviting reflection on both the beauty and fragility of these landscapes.

Liúsaidh Ashley Watt is an interdisciplinary artist whose practice expands the boundaries of photography through explorations of ancestry, folklore, landscape, and identity. Rooted in self-investigation, her work uses a multi-modal approach to challenge traditional representations of landscape and question how identity is shaped by place. Influenced by her upbringing in Shetland, the wild landscapes and local legends of the islands act as both subject and collaborator.
