Building on our first picnic last year (which was very much a tins in the park affair) we are taking this year's annual summer gathering further afield with a wee day out to Roslin! This is a chance for AGITATE members to hang out al fresco, and for newbies who haven't been to an event yet to get to know each other in a casual environment. We'll provide some light snacks and as ever, everyone is encouraged to bring a dish/bottle/flask of tea.

Excitingly, we will also hear from Andrew Paterson, who will be speaking about his ongoing photobook project Rosslyn, with a wee presentation under the trees and an optional photo wander to see a few of the photographed locations. More below.

About our speaker

Andrew Paterson (b.1987) is a photographer based in Roslin, Scotland. His recent work portrays the energy and atmosphere of place, through a historically informed lens. Andrew is nearing completion of his first photobook project 'Rosslyn', which received the Magnum Portfolio Award at Format Festival, March 2025.

About the project

Based within the photographer’s hometown, Rosslyn is an exploration of place. A land with a mythology that has endured battle, scandal, and rumour; the work attempts to portray the energy and atmosphere of place, through a historically informed lens.

Much like the land itself, lines blur between what is fact and fiction, revealing a dreamscape of connection, memory and the uncanny.

Rosslyn sees the photographer explore the threshold between folklore of the region’s past, and their personal connection and interaction with it in the present. The photographer invites the viewer to explore the landscape that has been shaped by the sum of all the history and people that have existed there and continue to be.

This exhibition is a part of the Season of Photography 2026 -  a celebration of photography in Scotland running from 1 September – 20 December 2026.
