As part of this year's Stirling Photography Festival we are delighted to be exhibiting the work to Tom Astbury at The Old Mill, Killin.

Around 10 years ago Tom was introduced to the evocative Gaelic poetry and songs of Duncan Bàn MacIntyre (1724 – 1821), who was born in Glen Orchy.

From 1746 for a number of years Duncan Bàn lived at Badour near the head of Glen Lochay, close to Killin, while working for the Earl of Breadalbane. During his time there, surrounded by hills and streams he composed some of his most famous works.

The black and white pictures in this exhibition are a selection of the original project exhibited in Dunblane in 2017 and were mostly taken in Glen Lochay.

Earlier this year Tom was invited to exhibit some of his collection at the National Storytelling Centre in Edinburgh, on the occasion of the celebration of the unveling of a memorial stone to Duncan Ban McIntyre.

You are invited to the opening of the exhibition 'dùthchas’ on Thursday 5th September 2024.

On the opening evening we will joined by Janet MacSween, Gaelic singer, who will sing some of Duncan Bàn's songs.
