An exhibition at The Stove showcases new work made by prisoners at HMP Dumfries in response to the Dumfries and Galloway Libraries Image Archive. In a series of workshops devised by photographer Alice Myers, participants re-framed and re-interpreted archive images, using collage to create new works. Discussing the images, individuals shared their experiences and knowledge, while reflecting on their relationship to the places pictured in the photographs, and on memories of more distant locations. The project reflects on the prison and its inhabitants as both embedded in and separated from the surrounding town.

Available to view during regular café hours from 9am – 3pm, Wed – Sat.

Thanks to all at HMP Dumfries, Fife College and the Dumfries and Galloway Libraries and Archives for their support with this project. All archival images courtesy of Dumfries and Galloway Libraries and Archives.
