Join us! Filtr Collective is a new venture designed to take the risk out of exhibiting photography. Filtr uses independent businesses across Edinburgh as evolving venues to platform fresh work.
Filtr collaborates with independent businesses across Edinburgh, using local hospitality hotspots as evolving exhibition venues to platform emerging artists. A changing trail across the city, this aims to engage new audiences with photography, connect a digital audience to new coffee hangouts, democratise art ownership and inspire fresh ideas.
Selected photographers will exhibit simultaneously across multiple cafes each month. This framework provides emerging photographers with a risk-free platform to exhibit their work as printing, install, promotion and sales will be handled exclusively by Filtr. In each of the participating venues, mounted (unframed) and affordable photographic work will be displayed for purchase via online store, accessed via QR code.
We are looking for early career photographers to join this new creative community and submit a body of photographic work for consideration. We will respond to all applicants. Successful submissions will be displayed across a variety of cafes so please bear this in mind – we love art that pushes boundaries but just be conscious someone will be sitting next to your images drinking a flat white!
As artists ourselves, we understand that applications are tedious and so we’re keeping this simple. All we ask for is 8-10 image files, print ready, and a short project text to go alongside the work. Please include a link to your online portfolio or website if you have one as we’d love to know a bit more about you.
Transparency for us is key. If selected, your prints will be available for purchase at participating cafes via our online store. We will handle printing, install, sales and delivery. We will promote your work online via our social media platforms in a variety of formats. To cover these costs and to pay for our time, we will take 40% of cumulative profit. Pricing is negotiable but we’d like to keep prints as affordable as possible – under £50. We hope this will be a system that works, and allows more people to enjoy owning photographic work.
