With The North Sea: Artist Talk

The Curatorial Fellowship welcomes Frances Scott to present a talk surrounding her photography and walking practice amidst the backdrop of hand-drawn maps and prints currently on display in the window and gallery of The Worm as part of [‘With The North Sea’] events programme.

Frances Scott is a photographer from Orkney. After graduating from Glasgow School of Art with first-class honours in 2014, she co-founded Móti, a collective which seeks to unite and promote early-career artists based in Orkney. Her first book, ‘Undertow’, will be published in February 2020 by Another Place Press, available for pre-order now from anotherplacepress.bigcartel.com. Her work has been exhibited nationally and she is currently based in Glasgow.

‘Undertow’ documents the changing relationship between an islander and her home, as Frances Scott walks the coastlines of Orkney. This work - a collection of photographs, handwritten notes and map-routes - considers the nature of belonging, and how it can be formed anew, by walking the brink where land meets sea.

The Associates is run by Peacock Visual Arts and began as a pilot program in 2018. This year’s programme brings together five practitioners working in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire and is Scotland’s first fully-funded Curatorial Fellowship for visual arts. This year’s cohort includes; Joss Allen, Caitlin Dick, Phoebe McBride, Svetlana Panova and Abby Beatrice Quick. The Fellowship has been running since May 2019 through a series of intensive sessions, reading groups and discussions with local and international organisations and practitioners. The content of the programme is informed by the needs and interests of The Fellows and developed by the collective group, with support from PVA staff.
