The prize-winners in the 2021 Scottish Portrait Awards echo the dominant themes of our times. From the challenging gaze of Effie Ioannou’s Aisha, Paula Elder’s deeply honest and emotional self-portrait, A Conversation with Self, and the multi-generational images in Saul Robertson’s Journeys to Peter Iain Campbell’s portrait of Photographer Laurence Winram meditating on a history of tidal erosion, these are Scottish artists bringing a fresh eye to the story of the 2020s. The awards were presented on Wednesday 17 November at the Scottish Arts Club in Edinburgh. Prizes included the £5,000 for the top work in the Scottish Portrait Award in Fine Art and £3,000 for the top photograph entered in the Richard Coward SPA in Photography.
