Jeff J Mitchell is a multi-award winning staff photographer for Getty Images based in Scotland. He has travelled extensively, covering major news events both nationally and internationally. He started out on the Helensburgh Advertiser 20 years ago and progressed to the Edinburgh Evening News and to the Glasgow Herald. He worked for Reuters before taking up a staff position for Getty Images in 2006 as a News Photographer based in Scotland.
In 2015 Jeff spent most of the summer covering the migrant crises, as people came through Serbia before boarding trains in Croatia to be transported onto the Slovenian border. He described it as “a conveyer belt of humanity... it was like a scene from the second world war. It was thousands. It was endless.” One of his best-known photographs was used on UKIP’s controversial “breaking point” migrant poster and shows the terrible plight of refugees fleeing war- torn countries. These pictures helped Jeff win Photographer of the Year 2016 Award.
