China: Through the lens of John Thomson. A Heriot-Watt University bicentennial exhibition.

The collection

John Thomson’s photography of China was widely praised by his peers and continues to enthuse new audiences today. The exhibition contains 94 black and white prints from Thomson’s China collection.

The exhibition

We are thrilled to bring this collection for this first time to Edinburgh. We welcome this exhibition as part of our Bicentennial year celebrations and also commemorate the centenary of Thomson's death. It is fitting that John Thomson himself was an alumnus of Heriot-Watt University and his collection will be on display here from the 30th September 2021 within the James Watt Centre in Heriot-Watt University, Edinburgh.
