Sylwia Kowalczyk will be exhibiting work from her series Lethe at Gallery 525. We are thrilled to invite you to a talk by Sylwia and a chance to look at the work on Wednesday 4th March from 5:30 - 7:30 pm.

Identified as one of the 80 most promising young photographers in the world by curators of Musée de l’Elysée in Lausanne and published in reGeneration 2. Sylwia exhibits internationally -  Lethe won the PDN Photo Annual 2016 ‘Personal’ category.

Sylwia’s work is deeply personal, referencing autobiographical events that have shaped her life and often allude to classical painting, the way in which annonimity or recognition may affect the way we perceive the subject of an image. She uses her own archive of printed images, reforming them through tears and cuts to produce startling and moving results which are then photographed again to express new memories from old.

“…this tearing and reframing of the image is something that I wanted to explore. Sometimes an image needs to break to allow another form and connection to take place.”
