Originally shown at Patriothall Gallery, Edinburgh in 2018, this exhibition of the mainly abstract images of Philip J Lavery has been updated to suit the new space and incorporate some recent work.   It includes pieces from his Transitional Spaces projects including In Praise Of Shadows, along with works from In The Broken Places, which is a response to his heart attack, and from Unfinished Business, a work in progress, that raises questions of memory, truth and loss.

Though his projects often start with words, Phil works instinctively, searching for beauty in the mundane and overlooked. He plays with surface, light and shadow and sees abstraction as a way to reveal the hidden stories of things. He believes beauty can be found anywhere – if you look close enough.

Phil is a visual artist living and working on the west coast of Scotland. Though he trained and practised as an architect for many years, he works across a wide range of mediums including animation,  digital media installations and photography. He has exhibited widely, with over 30 exhibitions in the UK and Internationally and has work in many private collections. He is a graduate of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art, Dundee and an elected Professional Artist Member of the Society of Scottish Artists.
