This special event sees exhibiting artists Sekai Machache and Awuor Onyango in discussion with artist, writer and educator Alberta Whittle. The event explores the collaboration from its commencement in an exchange residency in 2018. It further provides an insight into their working processes since the event 'Black Female Identity & The African Spirit ' - held in September of 2018  and led to their respective bodies of work, Ritual Manifestations and Memoritual; both of which are given their world premiere during Glasgow International 2021.

Body of Land is a 'new Art new Audiences' (nAnA) grantee, supported through the British Council’s East Africa Arts programme. Produced by Fòcas Scotland and supported by Street Level Photoworks. The exhibition outcomes within the project have emerged out of a collaborative residency exchange between Scottish-Zimbabwean artist Sekai Machache and Kenyan artist Awuor Onyango.

Alberta Whittle is an artist, curator and Research Associate at The University of Johannesburg. She was awarded the Margaret Tait Award winner for 2018/19 and she represent Scotland at 59th International Art Exhibition – La Biennale di Venezia, 2022. She has exhibited and performed in various solo and group shows, including at Grand Union (2020), Eastside Projects (2020), DCA (2019), GoMA, Glasgow (2019) and Pig Rock Bothy at the National Galleries of Scotland, Edinburgh (2019) amongst others. Alberta’s writing has been published in MAP magazine, Visual Culture in Britain, Visual Studies, Art South Africa and Critical Arts Academic Journal.
