Artist Talk with Nicky Bird, The Decorators of Portobello

Join artist, Nicky Bird, with a walk and talk around her exhibition, starting at the Art Walk Hub, following with a short stroll to visit a number of local Portobello charity shops hosting parts of the exhibition.

‘The Decorators of Portobello’ is a multi-generational oral history project that explores the social histories of a group of women (many now in their 70s and 80s) who worked as decorators in Portobello’s Buchan potteries from the early 1950s to 1972, painting artwork on the various ceramics produced at the time. The project seeks to make visible previously unrecorded social histories for these women, using oral recording, new and archival photography, culminating in the publication of a book (to be launched in October).
