Stirling Photography Festival is delighted to be partnering with Stills on a series of events through September, as part of our Flow 2021 Festival.

First in our programme is a workshop with David Grinly, where he offers an insight into the planning, processes and production involved in creating a photo book.

Offering examples of dummies, contact sheets, notes, test prints and all the things that artists and photographers might hope to expect in making a great photobook! Join David as he shares his experiences in creating photobooks, and be inspired to create one of your own work.

David is an artist and lecturer who grew up in Alva, not far from Stirling. In 2013 he self-published a photobook called ALVA, constructed out of three years of photographs made on return trips to his family home, in collaboration with editors, designers, printers and others. Images from the book were shown in Stills, The Filmhouse and Stirling University and are in various private and public collections. Photographs from the series were also recently published in the book Antlers of Water, edited by Kathleen Jamie and published by Canongate.

Having worked as a portrait and architectural photographer David decided ten years ago to concentrate on lecturing and writing on the photographic, and making art with photography. This year David published a follow up photobook, AULA, made during four years of research on “Photography and Belief” in various locations in Italy.
