Island Darkroom Winter Residencies

WINTER RESIDENCIES

Applications for 2021/22 Winter Residencies are now OPEN

During the winter months (November 2021 – March 2022, inclusive) Island Darkroom and Hebridean Bothy Pods are teaming up to offer artists across all mediums a reduced rate to stay in the Bothy as a creative retreat.

These self-directed residencies have been set up to provide time and space to research, explore and create in a landscape of outstanding natural beauty. They are aimed at individuals who are looking for a space to cut off and get away from distractions to develop ideas. Perhaps you are working on a project and need some head-space, or are looking for a place to experience the beautiful winter light of the Outer Hebrides and get inspired. We aim to make this a safe and positive option for artists looking for a solo trip in these tricky times of COVID.

Artists will be staying in a fully contained self-catering Bothy, for full details and pictures, please visit www.hebrideanbothypods.com. The Bothy is well equipped with a full kitchen, bathroom, WIFI and living area with a folding table that can double up as a work space. Situated in the heart of the Isle of Lewis in the village of Achmore, the Bothy works as a perfect base-camp for the whole island. Its proximity to wild open environments is an ideal place to get some head space and feel closer to the elements.

Island Darkroom
Just next door to the Bothy, Island Darkroom includes a fully equipped black & white photographic darkroom for developing and printing, and artists will be offered the option to gain shared access to these facilities.

Ordinarily, artists would also be given discounted rates for all Island Darkroom workshops, this will hopefully be a possibility in the near future and will be kept under constant review with Scottish Government regulations for COVID-19.

Studio Space
These residencies offer an optional studio space for just £10 a day at the Old Fire Station, situated half an hours drive from the Bothy on the idyllic Bhaltos peninsula in Uig. The studio has a large light space, sinks and toilet facilities. Please be advised that the Bothy is not a studio and artists who require to use paint and other similar materials inside during their stay are advised to make use of this option (subject to availability).

Deadline to apply: 5pm, October 11th
